There's ferocious briefing against Sue Gray, including over her pay. But only a handful of people would have known the details. Could there be a clue about who did it in an update to the BBC website?
Lobby journalists say that the briefing against Keir Starmer’s Chief of Staff, Sue Gray, is ferocious.
Some of this sniping started back in Opposition, but it has intensified recently.
There has been controversy over funding for the Casement Park stadium in Northern Ireland, stories of Sue Gray limiting access to Keir Starmer, and reports of battles between Gray and the Head of Political Strategy, Morgan McSweeney. But yesterday’s revelation of Sue Gray’s bumper pay award, and the details of its negotiation, suggest that there’s now a concerted effort to damage her position and to make it intolerable.
Some of Sue Gray’s allies are, understandably, furious about the leaks.
